Much of DCG’s early work was centred around the public spaces of Melbourne city. The Mockridge fountain, situated on the corner of Collins and Swanston Street in Melbourne CBD, us one such project.
Although the Mockridge fountain has been temporarily removed to make way for the construction of the Swanston Street metro station, it holds a sentimental place in Melbourne’s heart. Many Melbournians will recall with fond memories the magic of holding a leaf against the fountain wall, expecting the falling water and gravity to push it to the ground, only to see the leaf defy physics and float against the vertical surface.
The fountain was designed by Darryl Cowie and fabricated by DCG Design.
